The
council is too big. It has too many staff and has expanded beyond what local
council tax payers can afford.
Millions are being spent
on Oldham's new
'corporate' image with its silly blue Argentine air force logo.
Accompanying this
expensive 'corporate make over' we are paying to widely display a series of meaningless
slogans which sound like they were found in Chinese fortune cookies
:
Many
places - one destination,
Many
opportunities - one Oldham,
Many histories - one
future,
Many cultures - one community
,
Many prospects - one
choice
Etc etc
Why is the council wasting
our council tax on this sort of ridiculous 'social
engineering'?
Its just one example amongst
all too many of wasteful and
unnecessary spending by Oldham
council.
Smaller local Government
Its time to start
reducing the size of Oldham Council. and concentrate on getting basic services
like schools, older peoples services and social care gritting, highway
maintenance, and libraries right.
Instead of a remote and
centralising big brother authority I want to see council services brought
closer to the community with real control by local people over the services
they pay for.
Real choice
And what about some real
choice. If we are unhappy with our gas or electricity suppliers we can leave
them for another supplier.
Council Tax payers should have the same opportunity.
If Saddleworth doesn't want to continue
to have Oldham Council provide its local services it should have the right to opt out
& 'change its supplier' and leave OMBC.
